Let it be

During a street photography workshop in Dublin with Rammy Narula, Greg Marsden (Rammy’s assistant) gave Gerard O’Neil and me a little challenge: take an interesting photo of this group of traffic cones and the damaged, graffitied sign.

So I circled around, trying to frame something unusual, hoping someone dressed in red or black would walk by. But Gerard was always in my frame. I moved left, I moved right, tried to wait it out… but he stayed.

Eventually, I stopped resisting and decided to include him. And then — magic. I found myself facing the sign just as Gerard bent over, lining up his shot. His posture mirrored the arrow perfectly, like it was meant to be.

The lesson? Sometimes, instead of fighting reality, I should just embrace it. Let things be. Integrate what shows up, even if it doesn’t announce itself. That’s when little miracles sometimes happen.
